# Rate limit: definition for social media posting

What rate limit means in social media posting, in plain words, with how 1Post handles it.

A rate limit is a cap on how many requests or posts are allowed in a period, such as 100 per 15 minutes. Networks set them per user or per app, and exceeding one gets the request refused until the window resets. 1Post tracks the limits that apply and waits instead of failing where it can.

X, for example, limits created posts per 15 minutes per user and per 24 hours per app.

A rate limit is different from a daily posting cap, which limits posts per account.

## Questions

**What happens when a limit is reached?**

The network refuses further requests until the window ends. 1Post holds the work and shows when it can continue.
