# Free character counter for every social network

Count your post the way X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube and more count it, with each limit and how much room is left.

Paste your text to see its length on every network at once, each counted by that network's own rule: X weights links and emoji, Bluesky counts what a person sees as one character, and Telegram counts UTF-16 units. Each row shows the limit and how many characters remain.

## How it works

Networks do not count alike. X gives most characters a weight of 1, counts every emoji as 2 and every link as 23. Bluesky counts graphemes, the characters a reader sees. Most others count code points. The counter applies the right rule per network, so one number does not mislead you.

Turn on the X Premium setting to see the longer X limit, or set a Mastodon instance limit if your server allows more than 500. Rows turn red when the text is over.

## What it checks

- X weighting. Links count 23 and emoji count 2, as X counts them.
- Bluesky graphemes. Counted as the characters a reader sees, so one emoji is one.
- Telegram units. Counted in UTF-16 units, the way Telegram counts a message.
- The main limit. Each row shows the network's text limit where one is published.

> It runs in your browser. Nothing you type or choose is uploaded, and the page works without an account. To publish what you made, [start a trial](https://get1post.com/signup.md) and open it in the composer.

## Questions

**Why does the same text have different lengths on different networks?**

Each network defines a character differently. X weights links and emoji, Bluesky counts what a reader sees as one, and others count code points. The counter shows each network's own number.

**How does Threads count emoji?**

Threads counts emoji by their UTF-8 bytes, which is more than one each. The counter shows code points for Threads, so leave a few characters of room when your post has emoji.

**Does a link change the count?**

On X every link counts 23, so a long link costs no more than a short one. Other networks count the characters of the link as written.
