Questions

Why is a post with a link so much dearer?

X prices it at $0.200 against $0.015 for a plain post, a bit over thirteen times as much. Its pages do not say why.

Do reads cost money too?

Yes. X charges per resource returned for reads, for example $0.005 per post read. This page covers writes.
