Reels versus Shorts: what it means

Reels are Instagram's and Facebook's short vertical videos, and Shorts are YouTube's. All are vertical and brief, but each network sets its own length limit, caption rules and upload settings. Posting the same clip to both means checking each network's length, cover and caption fields separately.

Updated 2026-10-23

A clip that fits one network's length limit can be too long for another, so check the video against each before scheduling.

Titles matter on YouTube and not on Instagram, so the same clip usually needs two different captions.

Questions

Can one video go to Reels and Shorts?

Yes, if it fits both lengths. Write a title for YouTube and a caption for Instagram, and check the file with the video spec checker.
